CCTV Music Video

This is a pretty noval approach to filming a video, especially if you have no budget for camera’s, lighting or those big silver, padded boxes. Manchester band; The Get Out Clause, performed for their video in-front of CCTV cameras, then requested the footage under the Data Protection Act. A little bit of editing and a fascinating music video was born.

Psychedelic Milk

A pretty cool visual effect, adding food colouring to milk then a little washing-up liquid creates this crazy psychedelic show.

Bon Bon, The Entertainer

stills from The Entertainer by Bon Bon

Fascinating visualisation by London-based video artist; Bon-Bon, combining light and sound in the way that music programs always promise but fail to deliver.

Also worth seeing some of his other work, especially Mind The Step another visualisation in a different style.

Tekkon Kinkreet

Tekkon Kinkreet

A visually stunning anime adaptation of the wonderful manga by Taiyō Matsumoto. Tekkon Kinkreet is the story of two steet-kids attempting to keep ‘control’ of Treasure City, or ‘their city’ as they call it, and their struggle to ward off outside influences and the yakuza who want the city for themselves.

Tekkon Kinkreet is, by far, one of the best anime movies I have seen since Spirited away.

Once again, blurring the line between sculpture and manufactured design, London studio Troika have installed this amazing kinetic work inside the otherwise chaos-stricken Terminal 5 at Heathrow.

Kudos goes to the The Mathematical Society of Traffic Flow in Japan, who recently modelled what regular motorway drivers have known for sometime. Unnecessary braking causes traffic jams!

Ok, not actually by Saul Bass, but if Star Wars had been made twenty years earlier this could have been the introduction.

Smoke On The Water - Edo Style

Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water, played in an ancient Japanese style by Ooedo No Hikeshi.

Potentially an epic soundtrack to a Kurosawa-inspired movie…
