It Begins…

Well, university is all but done…which means it is time to think about a big ol'redesign to bring everything up to date. This (sort of) means that this blog probably wont get many posts in the future, as i will be working on the new edwilde.com (and it's associated blog).

Potentially, the redesign will encompass the homepage, blog and a couple of new bits too. I have a pretty good vision of what i want to create, but things always change as it becomes reality.

I should imagine i will keep this blog as it stands for posterity…what can i say? i am a digital hoarder…

A New Home

a reasonably painless switch to a new server has just been completed. More space, more bandwidth and better stats…w00t!

Also best of all…subdomains! Meaning this page can now be accessed by blog.edwilde.com

What Have I Been Upto?

This…and a 10,000 word document on a simple database driven web application.

expresso is a short 3d animation made using 3dsmax and a cartoon renderer called illustrate!. It took about 300hrs to do although many more than that if you include planning and sketching etc…

Overall I think it came out well, although there are still some mistakes which seem pretty obvious to me (although luckily few other people), including the classic scene where the character has no face (see if you can spot it) and a couple of animation jitters here and there caused by some dodgy mixing of motion capture data.

Well…Not Totally True

I just don’t have a great deal of time i can justify on the blog right now…things will pick up again soon, i expect.

Mmmm…Muenchen!

Well this photo pretty much sums up where I have been this weekend.

A fascinating contrast to London…cold pure beer, silent & punktlich tubetrains and no real pretense of fashion :)

Weblog Awards 2004

Well, since blogs are sooo popular Wizbang have created their own Weblog Awards. These are done in real-time (as one would expect) and cover a large variety of different blog types (cultural, tech, political, marketing etc…).

I wasnt wonderfully impressed with the lists they had, there were some very notable missing candidates (gapingvoid in marketing for example).

But still, it is a great resource for finding new and interesting blogs…

'bo ke' - Blogging in China

New Scientist has a detailed look at the world of blogging on the wrong side of the Great Firewall of China. Seems like a pretty dangerous hobby to me…but some people will always want to blog.

Asked whether he has a strategy to expand blogging under China?s censorship regime, his response is Taoist: ?What is our strategy? We do not have a strategy. But the information flow in the blogosphere has its own Way. The Way is our strategy: personal, fast, connected and networked.?

Bringing BitTorrent To The Masses…kinda

A new program called BlogTorrent is set to bring the somewhat mysterious world of seeding torrents to anyone who is savvy enough to install a set of php scripts on a webserver.

This is a pretty nifty way of allowing people to transfer big files at speed without choking one server with all the bandwidth requirements.

On the downloaders side, the scripts provide a link to a torrent file as well as an 'easy download' button for n00bs which installs a client on your machine (windows only).

Web Trumps

Remember Top Trumps? This is a web-based version of the game using bloggers and internet personalities as the trumps…each card is given a score for design, innovation, wealth and usability, great fun :)

I am guessing that is the reason for the (1 view) on each of the entrys…

MetaBlogging…

…that is, talking about blogging instead of actually doing it.

An interesting look into the different types of blog emerging around the world. By the writers definition, this blog would be an Advocacy blog, I guess…

Now Playing, now functional

This shows the past 10 albums i have played in winamp. The one which is currently playing has a '>' icon :)

A triumph of php and winamp integration, at the moment the albums link to a google reference.

CMS Fixes

spent ages delving around the php cms scripts fixing misc irratances. Managed to create a (rather nasty) work around to cope with PHP safe-mode owner permissions. It works is all i can say, not pretty but it works.

Now comments work, no registration required…w00t!
