Yutaka Loves London

Yutaka Loves London

Ok, looking back I am starting to notice the distinct wasabi flavour to the past run of posts, this isn’t intentional…just seems to have come out that way. Anyway, Yutaka Loves London is an cool little site with some hipster places to visit if you are in London, would be great with a little more content.

Guess we will have to wait for Yutaka’s next visit.

Everyday Objects with a High-framerate Camera

Another cool slice of Japanese television, the ‘crazy professor who takes video with a high-framerate camera happy show’. Including the standard, bubble bursts, bullet shots and random face in the top left corner but also the fascinating mobile phone drop, various liquid splashes and even the laser triggered underwater explosion.

Artist’s Moleskines

The Detour exhibition shown in London last year was a collection of 70 Moleskine notebooks belonging to international artists, designers, arhitects, illustrators and writers.

Each one has a video tour like the one above.

Primordial Soup at Tokyo Summerland

Crazy video of a packed out pool in Tokyo during the recent holiday week. I can’t believe someone actually thought it would be a good idea to turn the wave machine on.

The Crazy Japanese Rubber Ball Guy

Julianne Swartz’ Bubbles

Julianne Swartz - Couple Bubble (suspended)

Artist and photographer Julianne Swartz paints with bubbles and light.

Light is my primary material because it instills presence without physicality. It can be easily taken for granted, yet when contemplated, light becomes a sense provoking opportunity for thought.

Many more images of Julianne’s bubbles are shown in her portfolio here.

Tweel, Tireless Tire Technology

The Tweel in action

The Tweel is a pretty crazy innovation for tires, Michelin removed the sides and added a bit of structure to create ‘airless’ tires. Great, but they kinda look like pram wheels.

There are some more images here.

Friday’s, Cat’s and teh Internets

What is it about Friday’s which just seem to encourage the posting of Cats doing ridiculous things?

A Girl by Ron Mueck

Video of Ron Mueck’s disturbingly lifelike, 18ft long, newborn baby girl entitled ‘A Girl’. There are also some good shots of his latest exhibition being installed on Flickr.

Tomoyuki Tanaka’s Uniqlock

The Uniqlock

This is one to leave on your screen when you go out to lunch, of course, if you do, expect a small crowd around your machine when you get back.

The Uniqlock is a simple clock telling the time in Tokyo and every five seconds showing a five second clip of some random Japanese dancing girls. Tough to explain, even tougher to explain why it is so compelling. It is also available as a high quality screensaver to download, if you can find it.

Money Makes The World Go Round

Kolya, Works in Paper

Fantastically detailed cut outs of cityscapes from world currency by Nicholas Manion.

It was not my interest to merely illustrate the location from which the notes originated, but rather to unearth deeper layers of meaning. All of these notes were already dislocated from their ‘natural home.’ If a 10 Swiss franc note is currently in Brisbane, where else may it have been?

Blur Studio’s, A Gentlemen’s Dual

Just a little animated 3d Sunday sillyness.

Mutated Fruit and Deformed Veg

A very mutated pepper from the mutatocollection

No, this isn’t the produce of a shop for organic vegetables at West Ealing market.

The mutatocollection is a gallery of beautifully photographed, mutated fruit and veg, all organised according to colour by Uli Westphal. A fascinating browse…
