The Tate Modern has just launched their newest exhibit, entitled Global Cities.
In order to ‘celebrate’ that for the first time in history exactly half of the population are living in cities they have collected a lot of city inspired artwork, including these density models which show a 3d relief form of population density related to geographic location in the city.

A nice 3d typographic animation explaining what typography is. Not exactly in-depth but an interesting response for people who believe that yellow comic sans is just as effective as black helvetica.

I know what you are thinking…there is not enough crazy balkan gypsy klezmer music in my collection.
Well the Belgian DJ Typsy Gypsy (how can it not be good with a name like that?) has put together a really nice mix and offers it free to download (at a high quality).

A simple Buddhist teaching, explained by Alan Watts, animated by Matt Stone and Trey Parker (the southpark guys). There are a couple of other animations here.

Following on from the collection of lighting doodles I linked to a while ago, this is the animation containing most of those clips and a whole host of new ones.
This video is made from people waving lights in particular patterns and shot with a long exposure, yep, like kids do with sparklers on firework night. Except these are a little more composed…
If the video above isn’t high enough resolution for you (I know, the compression isn’t great). Check out the video in lovely high resolution quicktime on the PikaPika site.

…so the web is just a series of tubes.
This is actually a really clever and well thought-out map detailing the main players on the web and which ‘lines’ (sharing, tools, technology, news, community etc.) they belong to. It also details what web version (1.0, 1.5(?), 2.0, 2.5(?)) their mindset is and whether the outlook is good for them at the moment, denoted by a little weather icon.

Perhaps it is the influence of the new Guitar Hero expansion, but this really has to be the pinnacle of hilariously bad 80’s rock video over-production.

Saw this little 45 second advert for gum the other day, seemed vaguely familiar. It is fascinating that the video for Blur’s Coffee & TV seems to have had more influence than the song ever did.

…and hasn’t everyone wanted to create a Simpsons character to represent themselves in an episode?
if only…a very humorous news story from The Onion, detailing the day the internet crashed.

Perhaps this is a glimpse of the future of billboard advertisement. At least in the short-term nothing will grab attention like a wall which changes at the speed you walk past, or grows alongside someone in your field of vision.
This is the adobe interactive wall, installed at union square in nyc. There is also some entertaining video here of various nerds putting it through it’s paces.
A simply awesome one-take music video for Grip by the Norwegian band zZz, definitely worth having the sound on even though it plays little direct relation to the video.

I know this is the question that has been at the forefront of your mind since it was announced…

To visualise a taste, this was the challenge of Pixar’s Ratatouille. This is a small gallery one of the conceptual artists; Michel Gagné who worked with Pixar to get the visualisations just right.
The one above is Cheese btw.
