The Paperless Painter

Manga Girl by Cali Rezo

This is the artwork (actually a self-portrait) of Cali Rezo, a French painter who works entirely in a digital form.

I work with a tablet and a pen directly on the computer. Besides, my crafting is quite “traditionnal”:

I use photographics references (I shoot everything that moves… and everything that does not also, haha !). I start with a sketch (with my electronic pen, huh, not on paper, no, no, no !)( and I don’t draw ON the photo). Then I paint the light and dark flat tints. And I tune the color tints and the finess of the strokes.

There are some wonderful images in her gallery, as well as a very nicely crafted interface.

First 10 Minutes of 2007

ahh, some kind person viewed the spectacular new years fireworks on the southbank through a viewfinder, so that we could watch them from a different angle 24 hours later.

I was about 110 degrees to the left of this shot, sipping champagne while making ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’ sounds at appropriate times. Although the fireworks shot into the middle of the eye were lost from where I was standing, the wind was clearing the smoke out of the way of the big ones, nothing worse than seeing stunning fireworks through a thick haze of blue smoke (as the video shows).
