The Apple Experience

This article talks about something which would totally agree with. The art of packaging…

I have opened countless computer technology boxes, some are a pain to get into, some are depressingly spartan others are covered in such garish graphics that they seem to want to overshadow the product itself.

The ones I really remember are the apple ones, I have been lucky enough to open both my shiny powerbook and a couple of new G5's (back when they were very new). The fantastic way in which they craft the packaging so it gradually leads you to the product. The way they have a (realistically pointless) picture of a life size G5 as the first thing you see when you open the box. At that time I had only seen the G5 in little images on the web, seeing it in a lifesize image then the real thing under that image was a very clever way to build the excitement.

The powerbook's white cardboard simply saying 'designed by apple in california' was again pointless but nice. The ultimate packaging seems to lead you through the opening process as much as a movie leads you through an introduction before getting to the main thing.

Anyway…this article pretty much says the same, arbiet a little more eloquently.
